A series of projects have been developed by Limerick Civic Trust to commemorate the life and achievements of the great Limerick born Soprano, Catherine Hayes (1818-1861). The projects will be carried out and managed by Limerick Civic Trust a self-funding conservation society registered as a charitable Trust. Limerick Civic Trust initiates and undertakes a programme of projects for the general improvements of Limerick’s environment and heritage.
The object of the Catherine Hayes project will be to create an ongoing program in which the public, corporations and other entities will be invited to participate and to contribute funds to the restoration process and towards the educational and exhibit programs which will be offered.
The Catherine Hayes Projects will fulfill Limerick Civic Trusts mandate by protecting part of Limerick's built heritage. Through your support and contributions to The Catherine Hayes Project we will be able to succeed in completing the six objectives as planned.
Catherine had a truly spectacular life. During her career she travelled through Europe, Asia, Australia, America and Britain, all time promoting Ireland and her native city, Limerick through her songs. Catherine Hayes in effect, became Ireland's first "ambassador" to travel around the globe during the nineteenth century. The Catherine Hayes project will increase the awarness for this unique Irish woman's lifetime achievements and give her a place in history which her amazing life and career deserve.
The project has been divided into six elements:
